Day One
Carifest Symposium,

Sneek Preview – Akwantu: the Journey. A film about the struggles of the Maroons, the first Africans to Jamaica. This film is endorsed by the Jamaican Government and will be shown in Jamaica on June 17 as part of the 50th Independence Celebration. The Producer/Director of the film Roy Anderson is himself a descendant of the Maroons, and a successful Hollywood Stuntman. Dr. Harcourt Fuller will accompany the film and will lead the discussion. He too is a descendant of the Maroons.
The Maroons of Moore Town are recognized as a tangible cultural heritage of Jamaica by UNESCO.

Cultural Festival in the Park- Steel Bands, Reggae/Soca Music, Caribbean Dancers, Indian Dancers, Caribbean Food, Drink, Crafts.
Children’s tent area.
Parade Route: Visitor’s Center on Ann Street to King Street to Sumter Street to Congress to Hagood to Fishburne into Brittle Bank Park.
View the splendor of the Caribbean with colourful Revelers in beautiful costumes dancing to the beat of Reggae and Soca music through the streets on their way to Brittle Bank Park. “Playing Mas” Caribbean style.
